Bros v. Hoes

Among people I know the HRC BO breakdown is pretty well dictated by gender.  That is to say, the only people I know who support Hillary are women.  My mom, who is just the sort of academicy type who I would imagine would support Obama, is actually going for Hillary.  She gave the following anecdote to explain why.  A couple decades ago the managers at fast food restaurants would always be white guys.  Over time she began to see more and more managers of color.  I’m assuming she just meant blacks, but as she put it, the managers were any color you could imagine, provided they weren’t women.  Anyway, she’s a bit annoyed that the first time a viable, competent female candidate rolls around everybody’s clamoring to give their vote to what is still just another guy.

Can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this before, but when we studied the breakdown of wages in labor econ it was kind of interesting to see that black men earned more than white women.  (I’m guessing this was just among the employed, since black men have a pretty high unemployment rate and all those zeros averaged in would probably have brought their average down below white women.)  This situation where we may end up selecting a black guy to run for president before we pick a white chick reminded me of that very basic measure of the way our society puts bros before hoes.
